Was using the Fly Duo B720 CDMA + GSM phone (costed 8.5k then) with Tata Indicom and Aircel for the past 1 year. I thought that this is as good as a Dual sim can get until I found some shortcomings like NO Java. I mean that is insane. Even phones costing under 3k are Java enabled. But lived with it for what is almost a year now. When I was on the lookout for a new phone, same criteria CDMA + GSM, found so many unbranded and/or chinese make ones for really cheap 4-5k. I was very clear about buying a branded one (even if it is less known) and the brand should have authorized service centers all over India.

When I was on the lookout for the same (my budget was 10k), came across some really nice ones such as the LG RD10000. But it was way too costly and it was locked to Reliance. After seeing that, I thought why not a touch screen. I already have the storm for my emails and internet access. So this is a phone which will primarily be used to make and receive calls. And I am quite used to the touch now (which I was very averse about, a year ago). After quite some googling, I landed up at the ndtv website which puts up the cell guru reviews online after they are aired on television. Found the micromax Gravity GC700. The gravity sensor was a really cool feature, and held in landscape mode, I can fool someone that it is the new PSP from a non-Sony company. ;)

The price mentioned was MRP 12,999 which is above my budget, but not way too out of reach like the LG. Did some research on the phone, read some reviews, before deciding that this is what I was looking for. Searched for deals online, found that wavetel and univercell don't stock micromax. I was a little sceptical, how they reviewed a phone which was not available with major organized retailers such as wavetel, univercell and themobilestore. But still decided to take the plunge, as anyways most major retailers don't stock cdma anyways. Found that sangeetha mobiles is the authorized distributor of micromax in this part of the country.

Went straight to the nearest Sangeetha showroom and picked it up. I think it would've been the fastest sale for him. Paid 12,629 for it. It was just today morning that I picked it up. Haven't majorly meddled with it yet. First impressions: Voice clarity is not too good. Fingers for texting is a no-no. Now I am kinda getting used to fingering the texts. I think in a weeks time, I wouldn't need the stylus.

I can answer the phone in any direction. Suppose I receive a GSM call when it is in CDMA orientation. I can still click Answer and the phone will use the correct speaker phone according to how you are holding it. That is an awesome feature I thought. Will keep updating this thread as and when I use it a little more.

Is it really hard to carry cheap cdma and decent gsm phone at once ? 13k for only sake of carrying one device is TOO MUCH .

Btw , my friend have a dual gsm micromax(4.5k approx) . The whole phone kinda rattles in speaker phone(or music playing through loudspeaker) . Built quality is amazingly cheap .

Its really hard to decide which is cheaper. Atleast the micromax dont make creaking sound :-( whenever i touch the phone .

On a serious note , my 5800 have survived few drops from 3-4 foot height . Slowly i am getting confidence .

It is real hard to carry different phones. Especially in the morning hurrying, if you forget one phone while it is on charge or something. It gets really frustrating when you get to office and realize you've missed one phone at home.

A minor glitch - my Plantronics Voyager 520 which worked perfectly with my fly B720 and storm simultaneously, is now not so clear at all when i get calls on this micromax. However calls received on the storm is still clear. Could there be a problem with the bluetooth chip on the phone?

No. My humble suggestion is do not go for it. I have been suffering from the time I have bought it. I had a problem of CDMA voice clarity very poor when you dial an automated voice response system such as a customer care, and CDMA poor voice clarity on connecting a bluetooth headset. The voice heard in the headset is jarred and even the caller cannot hear me clearly. All of this works well in GSM.

After raising a hue and cry, they have finally replaced the handset with a new one. The new one also has the same problem with CDMA. Tomorrow they have promised me to pick up the handset from me, send it over to their head office for an examination, update to the latest software, and then give it to me. I have been insisting on a refund or a credit note, so that I could buy another phone with the same retailer (I bought it from their authorized distributor Sangeetha mobiles and not some road side vendor). But they've said we shall give this one last try. I am waiting to see if the problem is solved. If it is not, and then they refuse to either give me a refund or credit note, then I am taking them to court.
