Modification/Editing of WinXP SP2

A guy from Rajasthan has modified the WinXP SP2 & rename it as WinXP Gold. Actually what he did, he modified/edit all the settings from WinXP SP2 installation CD.
- When installation starts, Windows XP Gold appears instead of Windows XP Professional.
- Boot screen, logon screen, wallpapers, icons etc. are changed.
- In My Computer Properties dialog box, his own pic appears at the place computer logo/pic.
- Everywhere in windows, Windows XP Gold is there instead of Windows XP Professional.
- Some other changes r there.

Amazing thing is that all the changes r made on installation CD so Resource Hacker is not used coz it doesn't support such files present on installation CD.
I have hacked many resources in windows but just after installing it.

Can anyone tell me that how it can b possible? I have a lot of expectations from all techies & mostly from Windows VIS(hal Gup)TA.

If mods found it illegal, then they can delete it or/& PM me.

At first after reading the topic, I thought that u were talking about me :D
Coz I hv done almost same in my XP CD!

1.) I hv changed the setup screen to Aish pic. ;)
2.) I hv changed the boot screen, login screen, icons, etc. to VISTA.
3.) Also my System Properties show Vista instead of XP.
4.) U can also find Vista in About windows dialog box.
5.) And many other things.

The reason behind what this guy has done is, He has just hacked some system files using resource Hacker and then he has compressed those files and at last he has replaced original files in setup with the modified one. :)

To do the same urself, just edit the file u want and then give following command:

modifyPE.exe filename -c

NOTE: You can find modifyPE.exe file in the attachment!

and then give this command:

makecab filename

e.g.
modifype.exe Shell32.dll -c
makecab shell32.dll

It'll compress the file and will make it as Shell32.dl_, and now u can replace the original file in setup with ur modified one.

So when u'll install windows, ur customized file will be there automatically ;)

better use nlite...u can remove many things from the XP CD from installing, & even integrate some stuff

But nLite can't do what he wants :)
nLite can slipstream SP, updates, drivers, etc. But it can't replace/edit existing files in the setup. We hv to manually do it...
As he want to change the look of setup screen, boot screen, etc. And we hv to manually edit those files and then replace the existing ones in the Setup with the modified files.

All the things, we hv to do ourself, in this matter nLite is useless... :(

Hey Vishal!

I tried as U have said but failed. I modified shell32.dll file & then put it into C:\
Also I copied the modifyPE.exe file in the same drive. Then I give the first command

Code: 
c:\modifype.exe c:\shell32.dll -c

& I got a message No error occured. Have a nice day. then I give the second command

Code: 
makecab c:\shell32.dll

& now process begins & completed to 100%. Then a message appears Flushing the folder..... or somewhat like that.

As I think, everything was OK but; still the file name was shell32.dll instead of shell32.dl_
The file present on CD is shell32.dl_ so it cannot b replaced by shell32.dll
Then I checked the file in Win98, & now the file name is shell32.dl_
So what's the prob in WinXP? Plz tell me immediately otherwise I will lose a bet. :D

OK Vishal I will try it but not now coz I m using Win98. Plz tell me that, process was OK or not?
I mean to say, that messages indicates succes or failure?

If prob will continue, I will replace the files in Win98 since in Win98 file name is shell32.dl_ :D
& I will test it with Virtual PC.

hmmm....dont know...it would have been ok if windows was open-source, or if such modifications were done POST-INSTALLATION as a part of desktop enhancement/modification...but this.... !?!?

Don't worry, I have genuine Windows XP Pro. I don't that my post is legal or illegal but I have mentioned that if it's illegal then it can b deleted.

hi visal
i have seen all your works i just stuned.
so i made my own shell32.dll (with reshack). but its not working. plzzzz help me.:-(
i will tell u step by step
1. i copy my xpsp3 with nlite
2. then integrate WMP11 with WINT11B60Setup(media paler 11 integrator)
3. i add about 88 sp3 updates with nlite. and make a bootable iso
4. i have change the installation screen with WinntbbuED_3.1
5. then i extract the shell32.dll and edit it with res hack so it become 8mb to 21mb
6. i modifyPE.exe shell32.dll -c and its done
7. then i make cab with makecab.exe form cmd and it named shell32.dl_
8. then i open my sp3 iso with magic iso and drag n drop both shell32.dll and shell32.dl_ into my cd (x:\xpsp3\I386)
9. then i burn the cd and install it
everything goes fine without any kind of error but my shell32.dll avi,dialog,icon are showing deafult. when i see the shell32.dll its only 8mb like default and there was a another shell called shell32.dll.tmp :sad:
i have spent so much time for this and its ..........
pllzzzzz tell me what i have done wrong and give me your tutorial or tell me step by step what to do. sorry for my bad english and advanced tnx
