hello,

This is my system config

intel P4 HT 2.8 Ghz, 256 MB RAM, SATA HDD Win XP SP2

My XP takes a lot of time to load. Load in the sense the Xp bars move about 25 - 30 times. I am not talking abt the startup ,thats pretty good. Only the screen where the bars keep moving take a lot of time.

I have recently re- installed XP and also defrag regularly.

Are any settings in XP causing this ? or is it any other problem ?

PS : Also could everyone please share how many times the bars move across in their XP.

i dont know, i have the opposite problem. with me, the bar is moving only 3-4times, but the blue 'welcome' screen is taking a lot of time to go to the desktop. :(

On my current config (read my signature), bar moves for about 4-5 times.

On my older config which is P3 1.0Ghz with 128MB ram. The bar moves about 10 times.

This was problem with me when I installed Windows 2K professional. The blue bar (equivalent to XPs bar that you are talking about) took around 2-3 minutes to fill whreas XPs bar takes only about 30 seconds approx.

One of my favorite programs for XP was freeware DriverHeavens TuneXP 1.5, which had several uncommon tweaks. One rather useful one was "Ultra Fast Booting-Rearrange Files. Try it *www.download.com/3001-2086_4-10290928.html

use registry mechanic/Repair Registry pro... after repair, do compact registry in registry mechanic.

@ Pramodv, there are several reasons :

1. Sometimes installing some antivirus causes this. I recently installed Zone alarm security suite and I noticed My XP takes a lot of time to load.(the bars took 27-28 rounds).I uninstalled it then it took normal time to reload (2-3 rounds)

2.You have lots of startup items or there are lots of shortcuts on desktop ( Know that some startup items load during initial boot screen, so ur startup items are loaded during initial process which leads to slower boot time)

3.There is a virus/spy ware

4. U can also use TuneUp Utilities 2007 to fix some common problems

5.You may have to format ur windows partition then reinstall windows

6. Consider upgrading RAM, say 512 MB

Thank u, and let me know if this fix ur problem

The total time of bars moving in Boot screen depends upon "Prefetch" feature in XP.

If you delete all files in "%windir%\Prefetch" folder and then restart the system, you'll notice the bar will move only 3 or 4 times.

And if the "Prefetch" folder is full of files, then the bar will move for longer time.

So don't worry about its time. ;)

^^ Its bcoz Windows has again started prefetching the apps. If you want to reduce the time, then you'll have to disable prefetching but I'll not recommend it.

This problem was also caused by Zone Alarm 7 Pro Trial in my PC. Unistalled it & everything was fine. Another reason could be a problematic driver. Download new updated drivers' from the manufacturers' sites.
