I had to reinstall XP, but unluckily there was a power outage and I had to shut it down in the middle. When I tried later, it gave a message that 'setup is being restarted...' and then there was blank screen (with the mouse) and the reinstallation did not proceed.I had to make a clean install of XP on another drive. Is it possible to recover my old XP, since I have to install so many apps on the new XP and it is very frustrating and time-consuming task ? My old XP is installed in C: and I cant boot into old XP.

These 2 statements are contadictory... !! as far as I see your Old XP is not yet been installed then how can u expected to boot back in ??

I would suggest just do the Re-Installation Process once again from Start, meaning boot with Windows XP installation disk then re-install !!!

You should have reinstalled it in the same drive.

BTW, the blank screen you were saying comes because of driver loading. It takes around 10 mins for it to disappear.

I faced this problem a hell lots of time on my old celeron computer.

I m currently having a similar problem, was actually upgrading my XP SP2, but had to shut down in the middle because of power failure

Nxt it boots fine ....but all my drivers are gone....that includes audio Realtek AC'97, printer, modem and infrared drivers.

I reinstalled them but m having a serious prob with the audio driver....now whenever i play a song it never plays smoothly....meaning there are abrupt breaks and music stretches with the slightest increase in CPU usage, which is really irritating.

I tried reinstalling the realtek driver ver:A4.00 and Ver:R1.71 but to no avail.....plz help.

First unistall both audio drivers and graphics driver.

Restart the Pc

Install graphics driver

restart

Install audio driver

This should work.

Get in to recovery consol and run one command to check ur HDD for bad sector...

run command chkdsk

also if you have another free partition then try installing one fresh copy there... you may have problem with ur RAM or HDD.... Therefore if possible just open up the cabinet and try cleaning the RAM and their slots....
