try out run>>gpedit.msc

Local computer policy> windows settings> Security Settings> Account policies > password policy.
Tweak around and try not to shoot your foot off.

virus is right. Your account needs to be of the administrator group. If you are not the administrator then you cant change it.

did u check the password policies?

Right click on mycomputer>Manage>Local Users and groups>users>Right CLick on ur user name>properties>Uncheck user cannot change password.

You have to be admin. so log in as admin by or go to COntrol Panel>admin tools>computer management>right click>Run As>Use admin password>
and contineue with the above steps.

@prashant the account he has is an account on the domain. So he still has to login to the domain. (I will check this out at my office. If it works it would be a major loophole)
@nikforu your domain administrator is most probably pushing down policy settings to your computer. (anyone else has any ideas) AFAIK this is the end of the road.

BTW nik why don't you use a password with alphanumeric and random capital and small letter? eg niK20064u or something like that?
