Friends

I have Asus K8N MB with a 160 GB Seagate Sata Barakuda HDD.
I had tried to install Windows XP on it, but after putting the CD into the drive and booting for CD, it says ...

"Setup is inspecting your computers hardwares ...." with black screen and white font.

After that it hangs and I'm not even able to see the first blue screen for installation :(

Plz tell me wh could be the problem. Note that I'm able to install other OS on that HDD including Vista/Linux.

Thank you.

possible that your cd/dvd is corrupt
as u said u could install other OS
so try using another disc for the same

is your hard disk a new one? if so try the new XP cd and install with it ,if your new xp cd also behaves in the same way, then the culprit is faulty hard disk

Thank you all for ur replies.

But I belive neither my CD/DVD (RW) is currupt nor my CD/DVD drive. Cos they are doing well with other OS. I have used same DVD to install vista and Linux .. no problem. and used other HDD to install without any problem.

And as you are guessing the HDD is currupt, its also not like that. Coz it works perfectly as a additional HDD to store data.

But some how I'm not able to install ONLY Windows XP SP2.

I found (from other forums) others are facing same problem as I, but I did not found the ans to this.

And I have also attached the HDD jumper to reduce the HDD speed to 1.5 gbps from 3.0 gbps to match with the MB SATA speed.

Use Gparted to partition the hard disk first, then try to install
Thank you ...
Definitely I'll give it a try after installing Linux/ running Linux from a Live CD.
