I am having many nodes in my office. Some systems has Windows 98 OS and Some has Windows XP OS.

I have a broadband router and its ip address is 10.10.1.235.

I configured in Windows 98 as follows:
system IP 10.10.1.93
Subnetmask 255.0.0.0
Gateway 10.10.1.235 (router IP)
DNS 61.1.96.69 & 61.1.96.72
WINS 10.10.1.250 (my windows 2000 server IP)

I can browse internet and access all systems in the network.

I configured in Windows XP as follows:
system IP 10.10.1.72
Subnetmask 255.0.0.0
Gateway 10.10.1.235 (router IP)
DNS 61.1.96.69 & 61.1.96.72
WINS 10.10.1.250 (my windows 2000 server IP)

While configuring like this I can browse internet and I cannot access other nodes and server.
If i change the gateway to 10.10.1.250 (server IP) i can acess server and all other systems. But i cannot browse internet.

Kindly tell me how i have to configure so that i can browse internet and access other systems in the local area network.

Hello,
If i am right, you can access both Internet and other nodes in win98, but cannot access nodes from Winxp.

First try this: Turn on File and printer sharing from windows firewall in winxp.....or if you are using Zonealarm or other firewall, turn it off and see if it works....!!

Ok ,

Disable the windows firewall.

Check if the "workgroup" name is the matches with other clients.

Also you can try this: set "obtain IP address automatically" on all the clients.

Run the network wizard from XP.....!!
