Windows XP Error -Driver_Irql_not_less_or_equal

Ok jus outa the blue...my comp jus hangs and this blue screen covers my screen giving me an error...it goes something like ' a problem has been detected on your computer..... Driver_Irql_not_less_or_equal ...restart the comp and see if the problem still persists...if it does turn off shadowing and catching from ure BIOS menu..'
when i start the comp...windows xp turns that error reporting thingie on and wen i send the report...it says there's a problem with my ADSL modem , tells me to contact the vendor for the latest drivers..but there are no latest drivers..thats what the airtel people said, i wrote a mail to r.b. comtec...no reply till now...
i have an airtel broadband connection, using the R.B.Comtec Modem(the small white one), which came with the connection.
im running Windows XP with sp2 installed on a P4 2.66 Ghz with an intel 845gbv motherboard with 256 MB of RAM...
usually this problem comes when i start P2P softwares , most recently with shareaza....
can anyone help me?

Anish...wrong section...needs to be in Q&A...so gonna get it moved.

Second...this is not a problem with ur ADSL modem unless u use a USB modem. The problem is that ur USB modem is being assigned an IRQ which is already in use by another H/W device. So you will need to change the IRQ settings. Easier way is to contact Airtel and ask them to provide you with a ethernet based modem. You wont have these issues but it does need an ethernet LAN card. Do you have this on your system ? If you could give a clearer picture it would be easier for others to help.

firstly sorry for postin in the wrong section..
2ndly...my modem is conncected thru USB... how do i change my IRQ settings? there is no point in contacting the airtel people now coz its like been 20 months since ive had the ADSL connection and the modem..so they're not gonna replace it that's for sure.. i do have a LAN card in my other computer, but the person who came to start the ADSL connection told me that one of the 2 modems he showed me were required.
Someone told me to use a windows registry fixing software...will that work? if yes...can u suggest a good one?

Did it start after you connected your modem..........??

it used to happen before, then it stopped on its own...recently i installed a fresh copy of windows xp with sp2...
no problems in the first 3 weeks...this problem starts usually when im downloadin something heavy... now it comes with shareaza...i saw what saroman posted...DID NOT UNDERSTAND A THING, it did advice for a change in hardware...but daz outa the windows..thanx neway..please post n e solutions to this problem..

Did you check your RAM??
Use Memtest to check your RAM

If you have probs using the prog, PM me.............

If you get an error, get your RAM changed...........

i dint get an error using the thing u gave me...
see i dint use shareaza yesterday, but i waz downloadin thru bittorrent and i started watchin a movie using intervideo WinDVD, 30 mins into the movie, the same error came...the bluescreen thingie...but when i was just watching the movie or just downloadin, no such error came..comps been on all day today and ive been downloading using bit torrent, and the bluescreen hasnt come even once...
and mahesh...dint understand what to do using the links u gave me..thanx anyway..
any other things that mite be wrong?
