I just got a copy of Windows Vista Beta 1, and since I couldnt install it at the time when I got the DVD, i created an image of it on my HDD. Now, I don't have a DVD burner, so I was wondering how could I install it. I know that in linux its possible for HDD install and/or network install, but how do I intall Vista with the image on my Hard Drive itself?

peace...

i know about the virtual drive. my question is that once the computer re-boots during installation, will it still continue installation from the virtual dirve? i dont think so as the virual drive will not be accessible outside windows

mount it, then extract to a folder, then install from there. This might work

Beta 1 ?? Thats Extemely Old! And Extremely Outdated.. (and Extremely Unstable)

Its Not even Close to What you See on the Vista Screenshots on the Internet..

Get yourself Beta 2.. Which is Gonna Be Released Later this Month.. Its a Public Release so you Can download it Legally..
(I'm Not Refering to the Current Beta 2 Preview Forks)

Well.. About Installation.. I Could Install Vista 2 Build 5308 from Daemon Tools..
I Dont Know about the Beta 1's.. Try it Yourself..

i installed that build too with d-tools , infact each beta build till date can be installed by simply mounting , the installation extracts the neccecary files to hdd before the restart.

ok. nearly ended up messing my computer with vista. after the installation was done, i got a screen "Finalizing installation. Do not reboot your computer". and i was stuck with that screen for over an hour!!!!! Tried to install again, but the same prob. Then when I tried to go back to winxp, i found that it wouldnt allow me to boot into xp for some reason. took me another hour to get things working again. whew...

What is the use of installing Vista now? It is unstable and there is neither any support nor any applications for it.
