Like everyone else on this forum i also love video encoding.One fine day after a fresh install of Windows XP,i was looking for the k-lite mega codec pack in my CD collection but i was out of luck.All i was able to find was ACE mega codec pack (Ew...it sucks look at the graphics of the installation). After installing this codec pack.Windows media player (10) started behaving a bit differently.It was still playing all the files fine.
But as soon as i used the seek bar to do a fast forward the picturefreezes for a second as soon as i reach the destination( the part of the movie that i would like to watch ) It takes around 2-10 sec for the movie to start from that point.Its really annoying.And i also hate the green arrow icon in the system tray (direct vobsub) that appears as soon as i launch a media application.So as you might have come to the conclusion that i was irritated ( and guess what u r right!!).I uninstalled ACE mega codec pack.
Now a much bigger problem strikes me.As soon as i try to play *.dat videos (Copied from video CD's) media player gives me an error "The source filter for this file could not be loaded." I don't know what's happening.It's playing everything as it used to after the fresh install but it is not behaving in the same as it did with video CD's.Any clue about that? I also tried re-installing ACE and it does solves my problem but i don't want to install this software.Pls.. save me.
Secondly earlier ( not talking after this fresh install ) Media player and real palyer used to play *.3gp files perfectly but now both of them refuse to do so.Media player only plays the audio and not the video and in case of realplayer it does nothing.
VLC Player is also not able to play them properly.It only plays the video and not the audio.
