when ever i play any video file it plays correctlybut for the last few seconds it blacks out i.e i dont see any video only a black screen but i still hear the audio........

I used to have similar problem in Windows Media Player 9, but my problem disappeared after installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.
so, I'd suggest you install Service Pack 2.

Which is your Motehrboard? and do you have any Graphics card?

Try these, Go to Plugins Tab in Options from Tools menu. Check that are there any Plugins related to Video effects.

Also do this, Go to Tools> Options> Performance> Advanced, here turn off the option Overlay.
