All in the Digit Forum,

First of all, I would like to thank you all for your kind help, advices and instructions by means of your immediate and clever answers to my questions. Your are all very clever and very intelligent. Keep it up.

Before I ask my question, I want to tell you onething frankly that I am a new user of Computer and so I am not familiar with everything. Any how, I learn to some extent with the help of your suitable and efficient answers.

My question:

I am using Windows XP Home SP2 Edition. Yesterday,I attempted to update the OS through Internet. I saw onething named as "WINDOWS INSTALLER" in the Moicrosoft. I downloaded it and installed on my Computer. My Computer starts hanging and giving troubles from the time I installed.

My doubts:
Whether the"WINDOWS INSTALLER" belongs to Windows XP Home SP2 Edition or after the introduction of this OS,it is a new and additional one to be added or updated.
In the Add or Remove programms, I saw Windows Installer 3.1.(KB893803), but there is no size given for it.Then it is installed or not?
What is the purpose of this "WINDOWS INSTALLER"?
If not necessary, May I delete this. If so, how to delete it completely?
If I delete this "WINDOWS INSTALLER", May it possibly affect the OS in any way or I loose anything special?
I am unable to find out where it was installed, though I searched for it through search. Then, how to find it out?

Your detailed reply,please.

Windows Installer is a service which configures the installation of other softwares. This is a necessary system tool. Windows Installer can not be deleted or uninstalled, it can only be updated.
Try installing this latest version, it's a small file of about 2 MB size.

As told by Swatkat...Its an essential service..and with out it..yu wont be able to Install any App that comes with Windows installer....plz d/l the latest ver and see if it works or not.....else go to start->run->services.msc(XP Proffesional only)..and change the Behaviour of Windows installer from Automatic to Manual..so that Installer starts only when required..insted of Always on state.....
