This thing is know happening more frequently. A couple of days before i had inserted a scratched CD ROM and due to cd rom limitations the whole pc hanged
The next time i log oned after clicking on my user icon in welcome screen ( win xp proffesional with sp 2 ) the pc enters my desktop and display the wallpaper and then THATS IT , IT DOESEN'T MOVE FURTHER . I tried hard to make it work even usinng system restore but no use , so i had to format the systm

now 3 days back i did the same mistake and again the system is going that way , the only relieve is that there are some lucky boot ups ( tis is one of them ) which helped me to do my work but probability is 1:5

also when in the HANG MODE i try to run application by ctrl+alt+delete --> new task , but the application behave as if they are running for first time . What should i do ? I fear it is some kind of windows file protection , as during shutdown i see a message saying ( in welcome screen )" grop policies closed, shutting down wnds file prtxn "

What should i do ?
