Maybe Windows is switching off the network card to save power ? You didnt tell if its wifi connection you are using or a wired one ... Anyway whichever it is try this :
Start > Run > Devmgmt.msc
Expand the Network Adapters section and select your network adapter by double clicking on it .. Click on Power Management and untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" ..

Also check your power profile : Start > Run > Powercfg.cpl ..
Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan ..
Click on "Change Advanced Power settings" in the preceding dialog box ..
Check your network adapters settings in the list ..

Legend Never Ends
if your Lan connection remains idle for a long time the Internet automatically gets disconnected. And probably Windows switches off your Ethernet to save power.

Can you run "netsh int tcp show global" and post back the o/p?
Its either getting idle as suggested above or there is a drop in packets....
