WIFI for desktop

what do you call the device which you use to get wifi on your desktop the thing which looks like a usb pendrive
and which model should i buy, my budget is around 1k or whatever would get me a decent piece

Its called a wifi adapter.
Fir 1k you can get a decent one..something from netgear...i dont exactly know the name..

You can use DWA-131 Wireless N Nano USB Adapter - D-Link Wireless N Nano USB Adapter
I am using one with my desktop (Windows 7) and havent faced any problems as yet.

If I buy this, Can I access wi-fi in my PC (from a modem) and use my PC as a hotspot for connecting other devices through my net connection.

Basically I want to share my Broadband to my tablet, and when i get some unlimited net offers on my phone I want to do some downloading in my PC.
