Hi ,
I want to buy a new UPS for my system but I don't have any idea which is good for my system. I've heard a lot about APC UPS but I would be very happy if someone guide me which model is best for my system. I would be very happy with 10-15 min backup time. If you have idea about prize ranges for model those you are suggesting, it will be great help too...

My system configuration is...
Celeron 433 Mhz
14'' monitor
2 HDD
1 cd-writer
lan card
modem
optical mouse

Thank you....

Get a powercom 600VA ind600a for around rs 2000. You have to make sure it is designed for India specifically. You have to make sure it is not manufactured in India. That is because you can not get some of the special parts in India. And they will use inferior parts which don't work as well or have less functionality. Even some of the good ones like numeric uses larger transformers which are less efficient compared to the ones made in china. The difference is only 1 or 2 minutes more backup time. But it is makes a difference when you count years in their use.

APC is the best and will be the most expensive. Depends what your requirement from a ups is. If its just enough time to close your programmes and finish doing your work than even a local brand would be ok.
Otherwise they all are the same at that level wipro, genius, powercon, numeric and so on so forth. Better to get a company which has a good presence in your area and gives good after sales service, just in case !!

U can go in for any of the brands of APC as well as NUMERIC as they both r equally powerfull and will provide u with a better power back uptime. :)
I myself am using the NUMERIC Digital 600 (for my 17" monitor) for the past 4 years and that too WITHOUT any problems with good back up time

cheers n e-peace//

Let me advise you. Please dont buy the powercom UPS. I have bought the powercom UPS and almost all the time the computer restarts whenever there is a power cut. It is unable to handle the load successfully even though it is a 600VA (I have 17'' monitor). Better go for APC UPS. My friend has it and it has never given any problem. But it will cost you more. But it will surely be worth it. You dont buy a computer daily do you?? So do a one time investment and buy the best.

You havent tried it on your system to see if it works any better. Many of us have the powercom 600a with 17 monitors and modems etc hooked upto it and it works without problems. maybe you have a bad UPS. APC costs more because they are the biggest not because they are the best. Its all made in china. Most of them even use the same parts. If they are outsourcing then its all made by Jabil circuits. Just like almost all computers are made by JBL.

APC has a 1 year battery warranty I think where they will replace the battery the first year and the other 2 years fr the UPS itself. You can recharge your battery about 200 times. So if you don't use it every day it will last a long time. But every 100 charges, the battery looses 50% of its capacity, after 200 times it will only have 25% of its capacity. This is inherent in all batteries. But badly made batteries will fail much sooner. Sealed batteries should last 10 years since the electrolyte don't evaporate. Good batteries also have the proper VA indicated. CHeap batteries only have 7AH while well made ones will be 7.5VA for the small ones. I have an Exide 150AH inverter battery that is 3 times as big as the 120AH Panasonic one. The panasonic is made in Japan while the Exide is made in India.
