Hi! guys

I want to buy TV tuner card specially for recording my favourite programs in DVD (MPEG2) quality. I want the best possible quality for the captured video. So which TV tuner card should I go for. I will prefer internal version. My budget is around Rs.2000. What about Compro Videomate PVR/Fm?

Also

I have somewhat outdated system. It is:-
AMD athlon 900 mhz
Biostar motherboard with no AGP
256 MB sd ram
Sony 16x dual layer DVD Writer

Is my configuration good enough to capture video in DVD quality? Or I need to upgrade?

Please answer quickly it is urgent. thank you

I suggest to go for any TV tuner that have Philips chip.Mercury or Frontech could be best in budget 1.5-2K.Compro Videomate is waste of money like buying Intel processors

From what little I know about TV Cards, Compro products are far superior to el cheapo Frontech/Mercury/Other Cr@p.

Here's a review from a very respected source to back up my claim -

Or, you could go with Pinnacle and Hauppage cards, but they're expensive. Leadtek ones are pretty good too, if you're short on cash.

PS: Definitely your config is not adequate to capture directly to MPEG2 (in full D1 res 720X576), unless the card has an oboard HARDWARE Mpeg2 compressor chip.

Ideally you should capture in a format like Intel Indeo 5 or HUFFYUV (less load on your system) and then later re-encode to whatever format you desire.

either get hauppage or MSI as they both have TV Tuners with Hardware MPEG2 Encoder, with Pinnacle U will have to do software encoding for mpeg-2 with a 3rd party software like WinDCR or Media Portal
