Which media format ??

I have a 80 GB HDD n i'm a movie buff n i stores a lot of movies in my hard disk. As DVD files(*.vob) are very big in size i convert them in rmvb by Easy real media convertor to get as small file size as i can get, i just wanted to know is there any other format or video convertor which will shrink files as much as possible without lossing much picture quality?

Go for DivX or Xvid formats. They have stunning video quality at amazing sizes.

XviD is the best codec for your requirements IMO.

I suggest you use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD's and AutoGK to convert them to XviD. Go to www.doom9.org for a complete guide.

I've choosen rmvb because it gives decent result in minimum file size. I can store a 1:30hr movie in approimately 330MB but DivX n Xvid takes abt 700MB space,as i've to save space too i prefer rmvb.

You can try wmv using Windows Media Encoder. Its a good format, and the encoder can be downloaded free of cost from Microsoft. A year back while shopping with a friend for a DVD player, I saw a Philips DVD player which was wmv compatible.
