When will Dell starts to ship lappys with ATi discrete card?...(I am just curious)
You'd better go for a HP Lappy that comes with 9600M gfx card...worth buying it..

Not like that... Both of em were good and choosing between em is according to ur requirement..
I prefer a 9600M based HP over a ATi based Dell.....

ASUS has a lappy which ships with 9700MGT but that will cost you an arm and a leg...... prolly a kidney too .

NVIDIA will be a better option. In your budget, 9600M and 8600M are the only options which are good VFM.

May it be cooling or performance....... NVIDIA rules the roost in mobile grafix solution ATM.
