what is VIA Chipset???

my motherboard is Asus A8V-MX which had come along with the driver cd...

when i insert this cd in the drive, i get a list of all the drivers which i am

suppose to install, "VIA chipset driver program" is also mentioned in the list,

what is this via chipset and for which hardware is this driver used, is it

necessary to install???:confused:

i also use a VIA Chipset based ASUS board very famous for its bad quality drivers for its hardware.Linux users will have real tough time running this Graphics card (via Unichrome Pro IGP etc)..for them *openchrome.org is the way.
even their windows drivers are not the best.
for seeing the cheated users crying u can visit any part of their forum.

VIA is a motherboard/chipset/processor manufacturer like say intel or AMD.

You have a VIA mobo and those are chipset drivers for it. For everything from sound, graphics, usb, IDE etc.
