weird problem in XP

Right off the assembly line
whenever i try 2 login,the keyboard n mousepad ceases to work or keeps hanging if THE BATTERY TO THE LAPTOP IS CONNECTED.
but as soon as i remove the battery,it starts up fine.
i hav a 256MB RAM...and i bought an additional 512MB but owing to these problem,i am not sure if i should upgrade the RAM.
The laptop is an intel centrino 2005 make from acer...how do i know if the motherboard supports the extra RAM?
Please hellp...:confused:

Open the back panel for RAM and check how many slots the mobo has. You can also try applications like CPU-Z and Everest

If you have the mother board mannual, I think there will be the solution.
Also you can contact the MB mfg's web site.

bt hw am i supposed to know the make of my mobo???
u see,for laptop they dont exactly give the manuals...and its has juzz 1 extra slot.also the problem exists with 256MB of RAM

Maybe the battery is defective in some way.
As for the extra ram...take out the existing one and compare the pin count and position of slot(s) etc.If identical push in the new one.
