now, gaming on a laptop to be very frank is a tough thing for the battery life and portability thing..
neways,,,, here are 2 options from DELL:
1.) DELL XPS 15
and
2.) DELL Studio XPS 16

i wud say, go with the XPS 15 as it has got a core i5 processor as compared to a lesser powerful Core2Duo of Studio XPS 16...

asus would come out better PC's & Laptops : ASUS K42JA-VX032D Core-i5 ,2gb ATI HD5730 for 43899/- and 3 Assured Gifts
asus laptop screensize is 14 inch, you can check with SMC as well for this model, as ashu already mentioned battery life will be low if not wrong not more than one and half to two hours
also u should have mentioned the different models you looked in
I suggest the asus model + coolermaster laptop cooler + extended warranty for the laptop + addon of RAM, this Asus model is without OS, and gfx card added is much powerful than what is in Dell XPS 15 and yes no need even think about XPS 16.

Also have a look at Toshiba Satellite L650-X5310 Laptop. Which has a good specs for gaming. It comes with Core i5, Win 7 HP, 15.6" Display, 1GB ATI Madisson-LP (I think this might be HD 5650 or 5730), 4GB DDR3 RAM expandable to 8GB, 500GB SATA @ 5400 rpm.

Dell XPS wont fit his budget. Get HP DV6 3049TX(for 51k) or Sony Vaio VPCEA36FG(for 56k).
