Want Info on internal hard drive to use as a portable

First of all I would like to mention that I don't have a computer.
I know that desktop internal HDD is cheaper than laptop so I wanna go for this way.

I have movies/photos etc that I have on my phone but given the tiny space of a phone I want to have a proper storage device for all this content.

So please suggest me a good budget Hard disk and an enclosure for it.
I can also buy online
My budget is around 3k Max, lesser is better

Also sata HDD is preferred but I think getting an enclosure for that will be difficult

nope getting enclosure for SATA is not difficult
you can buy transcend ones in 1500-1700 (non Firewire comes in 1500 and with firewire comes in around 1700, with firewire is generally not available in the market)

other enclosures available would cost 700 bucks in general they will be just with USB no firewire or e-SATA

Given that you have a 3k budget, why not go for Seagate or WD external 3.5" 1TB HDD. it costs around 3.5k and is much better than buying a 1TB HDD and enclosure and is safer too.

I was looking around 80GB (wow I'm a dinosaur)
So I guess 500GB hard disk will be cheaper?

don't want firewire etc. just a usb connection+HDD=data transfer=keep it simple k

I don't have a desktop but I have my friends laptop, computers at my univ etc

I don't think so. You just need to be lot lot more careful when you are handling external 1TB HDDs. One bad fall and you know......

Also, if possible go with 2.5" external HDD (that take power from USB) as it is easier to carry, costs around 4.5k.

go for 2.5" HDD a 500GB HDD will cost u around 2.5~3k
also dont go for Seagate instead go for WD or Hitachi.
