Want 2.1 or 5.1 speakers for music, to use with MacBook Pro

Need 2.1 or 5.1 speakers, budget 3500 - 4000

Hi,

I am looking to buy a good set of speakers. I listen to music almost all the time, and watch movies or play games only occasionally. I intend to use them with my MacBook Pro or a USB Drive or Memory Card.

Should I buy 2.1 or 5.1 channel speakers?

Will the 5.1 channel speakers work and really deliver, with my MacBook Pro, out-of-the-box? I won't like to invest extra bucks into converters and cables.

Please suggest some good speakers. Also, where will I get them cheaper - online or from a store? I live in Bangalore.
