There is one solution of using the NAT mode, it worked for me, in that I was able to connect the host OS and the internet. The only problem is that my host was unable to access the virtual OS (red hat 9). All you need to do is that set the gateway ip to say ...192.168.128.1 in the NAT tab of 'manage virtual networks' option. Then start that over any of the VMNEt host value provided, doesn't really matter and don't forget to apply after you have clicked start ...
Once this is over, you need to run your virtual os and set the dns values of whatever you have for your actual os. Then set the ip to something other than .1 i.e, 192.168.128.5 or something like that ... then set the gateway to 192.168.128.1. That should be enough ... try it out ....
If anyone is reading this post, they can help me with configuring the systems to a dual way, so that there would be access from both the directions .... if it's possible ...
