Vista and Ubuntu in dual boot

Hi guys,
i have recently purchase a Dell Studio15 notebook with windows vista Home premium as the OS.
I want to install Ubuntu in my system so that i can run both vista and ubuntu together....
can neone plz help me what should i do..... i m seriously a newbie to linux....

my HDD partitions are as follows
40GB in C (vista installed on it)
182GB in D (all my data, i mean muzik, movies, etc...)

Can i install it on C drive...??
Note: I dont want to lose ne sort of data.

is NOT a PC/Mac
Create a new partition from the space available in D: drive. Ubuntu needs two partitions for installation - one for the files and other for swap. If u have enough RAM available. then you can avoid creating the swap partition. Install Ubuntu in the newly created partition.

I wonder that you do not have a recovery partition present in HDD. :confused:
