If you are playing games LCD is a bad choice. If you are not playing and if you like to modelling and photoshop LCD is a good choice.

LCD are very expensive. I think a 17 inch LCD cost around 20000 rs or more for good brands like ASUS,ViewSonic and Sony.

If you are into playing games don't go for LCD displays, as they resolution is fixed and you can change it.
And if you want the best of the lot for LCD displays then its without doubt VIewsonic.
They have very good models to choose from ::

VA702b [8ms response time, 500:1 contrast ratio, 1280x1024 native resolution] *www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/valueseries/va702b/

VA721 [8ms response time, 500:1 contrast ratio, 1280x1024 native resolution]

VG720 [8ms response time, 600:1 contrast ratio, 1280x1024 native resolution]

The first two model retails for Rs.16,400-Rs.18,000 and the last model is priced at Rs.18,990.

Are they really so costly. I was thinking 17 inches were in the 12K-13K range

@shovik: Who told you that the resolution of LCD's cannot be changed??! Of course it can be changed.

Oh and yeah, *nothing* beats Viewsonic in LCD's.. Go for an LCD with the least response time.. It sould cost you around 15k.

he says that the prices im quoting is without taxes, with taxes the cheapest is around 18000

Dont listen to the dealer. I have sufered a lot from them listeing to their advice. All branded one has DVI and VGA adaptor.

Has i told you LCD are very expensive.

In the zone
Get a Samsung 940BW 19" Widescreen with HDCP over DVI. It costs around 16.5-17K and is the best deal in town. All these cheap LCDs have the same stupid 6bit TN panel so brandname really makes very little difference.

I would like to know from Kalpik, if you kindly let me know the process of changing resolutions of an LCD whose native resolution is 1024*768 or 1280x1024.

I will be thankful to him..

Hi!
Me also want to buy a 17" lcd monitor, will not be using it for gaming so fast response time is not necessary. So could u guys suggest the lowest priced to performance monitor. Also I already have a 17" samsung crt and want to use this one as a second display. Budget not yet decided.

The LCD can change resolutions only in fractions to the naitive resolution. Of course it does so using interpolation, which leads to slight loss of quality.. So a 1024*786 LCD can change to 800*600 too!

Even on online stores, the prices are not so high. For eg. at *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=264946
ViewSonic 17" VA712 TFT Monitor is quoted at Rs.11300/- only and the 19" ViewSonic 19" VA1912W TFT Monitor at Rs.17850/- only. At the local stores, it should be even cheaper.

Who said LCD's with DVI are so expensive? I have a Viewsonic 17" LCD VP720b. It has DVI and a 4ms response time. Got it for Rs. 14,000. I find games looking better on it than my old CRT.
