Hi guys. A friend of mine wants to upgrade his workstation

Kindly suggest a configuration.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Primarily Video editing but it will also be used for editing very hi resolution images and 3D rendering.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 150K can be extended if necessary

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 10.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 2 TB at least

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: 24

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Quadro k4200 - Already have

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: in 10 days

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:Assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:Lucknow but can source parts from Delhi

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: will need a fire wire port

This is what he has in mind, nor sure if this is best option.

In my opinion get better KB & M than CM Devastator. They are good for their price for games. But for workstation better mouse is recommended.

Right off the assembly line
Processor- Intel i7 5820k
Motherboard- Asus x99-A atx
CPU Cooler- Noctua NH-U12S(air) or Corsair H60 (liquid)
RAM- G.Skill Ripjaws 5 DDR4 or Corsair Vengeance LPX 32Gb DDR4.
HDD- WD Black 2TB
SSD- Samsung 850 evo 500Gb
Power Supply- Corsair RM1000x
Monitor- DELL Ultrasharp
Cabinet- NZXT S340 or Corsair 200r
What i think is the pricing gap is too much between the 5820k 6 core(12 threads) and 5960x 8 core(16 threads) to justify going for the 5960x. The 5820k is a very powerful processor in itself.
This is a very capable configuration imho.

for a 1lakh+ rig don't skimp on psu,get seasonic platinum series.also don't go for corsair 200r as it has some heating issues because of hdd drive cage when using more than 1 hdd.

im-different

Right off the assembly line
i7 5820k is enough for your needs(25000rs)+get 32gb ram as its necessary for video editing(13000rs).

get a good psu like corsair ax1200i or evga g2 or p2 series. look up Tom's hardware psu tier list and get any psu from tier 1 and tier 2 level.

very important for photo and video editing get a good 4k ips monitor. period. preferably from dell as they come factory color calibrated.

hope i helped.
