Very serious problem, Please help me with this

. Please Help me. I have a P4 computer with Intel board. I have installed windows XP operating system. The issue, the windows xp hangs as soon as it boots and enters the first screen. I have tried installing the Windows 2000 os also, same result. I have formatted my hard drive and also repartitioned but off no help. I am not able to figure out what is wrong?

I think that probably the cpu becomes hot due to heating problem...
check wether you have a well ventilated cabinet and a good fan...

also plz mention whether the problem exists in win 98 or not......

plz also mention other hardware specifications like RAM etc...

Try to update u r bios ....maybe it is the culprit

This could be a hardware problem too. Try to replace your mobo and see if the problem presists.

If the cpu over heated then it would not over-heat so quickly that even your os has no time to boot up.

try this and let us know if the problem presists.

yes.try to update your bios, then check your heatsink assembly, check the temperatures at startups...as winxp is more visually implicit,it's highly possible that ur cpu may be hotter than b4...if it overheats...remove, apply good thermal paste, fix it again, and look for fan operate normally.

also check your installation cd's. although its highly unlikly that both will fail but probable that they might have been stored improperly n stuff.

I am sorry for not getting back. I checked the fan and plast was no longer there. i applied a new thermoplast and along with it an extra fan. For now it seems to be working fine. Thank you all. I really appreciate the time you took to help me out.
