Is it possible to have 5.1 channel audio on a VCD and on a SVCD??
If yes, then what program should I use for this purpose and how is it to be done.

Hmm though there arent any players around that support MPEG multichannel audio if u are aware. So effectively makes no or little sense in encoding 5.1 audio for a svcd. Also by 5.1 channel audio he probably meant Dolby digital or DTS which r more popular rather than Mpeg multichannel which was shortlived.

Mr.Blade_runner in case u dont know all the DVD players Support Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC-3) audio... so if u wanna create a SVCD to run in ur DVD player (coz its cheaper to wirte a CD than DVD) then SVCD with 5.1 audio is very much possible...

why should DVD players support?
Coz DVD-Video stanrds makes Inclusion of @least 1 5.1Channel audio encoded in Dolby AC-3 Standard, mandatory.

So to put it simply SVCD with 5.1 Audio can be decoded on all DVD players.... (anyways many ppl are going in for DVD players...)

Moreover SVCD is supported by more DVD players than VCD..why?
SVCD in reality is MPEG-2 with support for multiple soundtracks and multiple subtitiles..
DVD is also MPEG2
VCD is MPEG-1 ...
So DVD players have the decoder.. whereas VCD players need it as an extra Decoder(SW or HW)...

I hope this clears things up...

Dude dont u read or r ur brains shorted ! svcd cannot be muxed with ac3 audio firstly......svcd standard supports only mpeg 1 layer 2 audio. So a Mpeg multichannel complaint player is needed for playing the audio. AFAIK there are none currently around.

Having 5.1 audio isnt mandatory in dvds ! Get ur facts right first and then blabber ! Audio can be 2.1 as well if u wanna save up on space or u r makin a multi-compilation disc.

Haha ! good joke svcd with 5.1 can be decoded by any dvd player ! Once again dude i have played into oblivion with video formats and my dvd player. So i m telling u this try it urself and see for real.
And dont tell me abt what is svcd and stuff ! If u dont have ur TV/Video fundas straight come to me ;)

I hope this really clears things up :D So next time better watch it
