Get ready, speed freaks. USB 3.0, the oft-rumored, much-discussed, rarely seen new standard heading our way has been spotted, sliced, chopped, and diced at CES 2008. Actually, we just got a chance to check the connectors and compare with the old 2.0 standard (which the reps tell us is backward compatible, of course). With speeds of 4.8 Gbit/s (600 MB/s), and a powering system which intelligently cuts the juice when you're not using a device, we have a feeling you'll want. Too bad we all have to wait till 2010... the year we make contact... with USB 3.0.

I prefer FireWire and that is being upgraded too. The best part is that, unlike USB 3.0, the new FireWire standard will use the same port that FireWire 800 currently uses. Great stuff!

USB is ahead on the release count though. :)

Who cares about speed if its faster than the current one. But the main question is at 2010 this speed will be like infra red transfer of today. What say guys?

When you have bought a motherboard with USB 3.0 ports and grinning and showing off, your neighbour would have bought a USB 4.0 :D

That will be cool.^

But any invention is a step towards ultimate..should actually appreciate them..Hope they go for usb 5 slipping four with massive data transfer just like india planning to go for 4g instead of 3g..

What's the new firewire interface? Any link or something?

Anyway, ever since I've used Firewire, I realise that USB's speeds are just a gimmick. Here's hoping that it will actually be 600MBps...
