1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
around 50,000 Rs

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?

Thin and Light; 14" screen

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: Sony, ASUS
b. Dislike: HCL, Acer

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Casual internet browsing, movies watching etc and occasional counter strike 1.6 (can run on 256 MB RAM),
Need good battery backup, with good screen resolution, occasional video making and photoshop etc

Need i5 3rd generation with moderate Graphic card

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?

for 14" 720p should be fine, but if one better than that is available its more than good. Screen should be visible outdoors.
6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)

Should have good VFM, and looks, Good battery backup (6-7 hrs minimum) So I think ultrabook should suffice. Should be very fast and easy to carry around.

you can take a look at this too. Its from samsung and the only two minor cons here
1) No DVD drive
2) its 1.99kg to 1.87kg of dell that can be attributed to bigger screen size

Now to Advantages
1) far better processor i5 3230m vs i5 3317u
2) far better graphics card 8750 vs 7570
3) bigger screen of 15.6 vs 14 better for watching movies
3) more ram(6gb vs 4gb) and more hard disk space (1TB vs 500GB)
4) cheaper around 5k

That laptop looks cool for gaming and bit cheaper for its price.

I like this one, but from what I hear it has quite reflective screen. and I am planning to use it outdoor too.

I like the ASUS s56CA with i5 here. But cannot find much reviews of it.

Is there some ultrabook by Sony available in this price range?

Thanks btw :)

Personally I don't suggest you a touch screen one in that 50k range. Go with asus one if you did not need backlit keyboard which you might get in dell. But to be frank go with asus one its ssd is really helpfull and intel 4000 can play games but do not except it any demanding game to play with it. Because ultrablooks are just not good for gaming remember that.

Yeah go with that asus s56ca, a 14 inch one would be preferable for its lightweight but still bigger screen is always better. I don't think there are any sony ultrabooks within 50k.. most of them are very expensive. You also save 10k for a laptop that will meet ur needs.

I went through some features of ultrabooks in the forum and after going through their limitations, I think I would rather buy a light weight laptop with good battery backup. For this reason I have opened a new Thread. Hopefully I can get some suggestions in that category. Rest requirements remain the same with occasional gaming and li'l bit multimedia work. Thanks guys :)

take the Lenovo Z500, should be around 50k- it might be 15.6 inch but its very slim and light. And the 645 in it beats most notebooks upto 60k
