Wise Old Crow
Hi all,
I got this BSOD message 'Unmountable boot volume' after I installed XP pro over my Vista partition.
I initially had Vista OS. But then I had installed XP Pro on a separate partition. The Vista Boot Manager was gone. Due to some problems, I decided to install fresh new XP Pro on my Vista partition. So I manually deleted the folders and files(hidden too) of Vista partition.
During the installation process it asked where I wanted to install OS.. I selected the Vista partition and in the next window I selected 'Leave the file system intact' instead of formatting. The installation was successful.
In the next boot, after the boot screen it gives me message that that my OS partition(one on which Vista was installed) needs to be checked for consistency. I allowed the CHKDSK process to continue.
All 3 stages of CHKDSK were completed. Then before I could see the login screen I got the BSOD message.
I googled this error and what it suggested that 'boot.ini' might be missing and I need to goto Recovery Console to fix this boot error.
But what I know is that after we install XP, it overwrites any previous boot record and updates with its own. So how come my boot.ini file is missing?
Is this because I deleted Vista files?
Now I don't have my CDROM working so the XP boot disc option will not work. Is their any other option?
Please help seriously.
