Hello.

I just want to ask you for help and advice as the last straw.
If anybody had read on of my previous posts, i'd gotten a new HDD and upgraded my RAM (512 MB)
After that, my computer developed a peculiar starting problem, it wouldn't start..so i had to get a new SMPS as well, which is fair enough.

But even after that, when i started my computer for the first time, it started normally; then stut down, rebooted came to the welcome screen and then looped back to the starting screen. This happened about 3 times and then it completely shut down.

After lugging my computer to the repair shop for the sixth or the seventh time; i got it back yesterday..i just realized he changed my two 256 mb rams and put one 512 mb ram (without telling me) and when i start my computer; it takes about 4 or 5 minutes to start (which is abnormally long, because it used to start so fast with my 128 MB ram!)
And there are instants where it doesn't start at all; just freezes at the welcome screen. Even when it starts, it's fluctuating in performance;
What i mean by that is some programes just develop errors while on (for instance internet explorer when it's minimised), my antivirus conks, the mouse often doesn't move in free movements (as in, it jerks while moving slowly)

This is the last straw; i have spent quite an amount in getting new hardware for my computer and it's still not working satusfactorily. And i need my computer to work very badly.
This is a desperate final plea..

PLEASE PLEASE help me if you can..

this used to happen when i used Avast on my PC as well as my cousin's LapTop, (tried with 3 different [new ones] installation files), but Avast just F:xcked up my PC's speed.

Maybe, it had problems with the Hardware... or something...

Hell Sucks!!!
Dude any antivirus will slow down a system and avast happens to be one of the lightest av. So if a comp is not abl to run Avast properly then it might itself be an incapable system bt by this i m not talking abt compatibility issue whch u mi8 have faced.
M talking a general case

^^ yeah i understand that, & i know how light Avast is on resources, infact i've installed Avast in one of frnd's PC for this reason & Digit providing that AV's Monthly Updates. (no internet connection @ his home).

Its just a guess, maybe @mushroom... dude is having same problm what i did with Avast... coz his M/B Service ppl replaced the RAM , M/B checked over 6 times...

We wont know that till he replies about the AV he uses. :D

btw My PC & my cousin's Lappy config.==>Orig. XP Home SP2, 256MB RAM. :)

I think there is serious hardware mismatch or goofup. I mean maybe smps is not right, or cpu fan not working properly etc. Or install the os afresh.

No, i think you're thinking in the wrong direction.

I have AVG installed, but i don't think that can be the problem at all.

I mentioned he changed the RAM on my pc, maybe the Hardware mismatch that someone mentioned might be the problem.

I want to know how probable it is that my computer's messing up because of RAM malfunction?

Check out what type of ram ur M/b supports. Then check what that guy has placed, how old is it. I mean check if ur mb supports DDR or DDR2, upto what frequency it supports, how much it supports. Ask that guy the purpose of changing it. And why would u leave a newly bought ram like that. I think u r too puzzled and that guy is taking advantage of ur goodness. Think with a cool head.

first of all, if the original two 256MB RAM sticks were bought by you, then get them back, coz the 512MB stick maybe a stolen/old & most probably mismatch goood.

If he changed the RAM without your consent, maybe he has changed other original stuffs from the m/b & replaced it with duplicate/cheaper ones.

btw tell us the RAM details(both the original & now replaced ) & your M/B model.

Come get Some
does you motherboard support that much ram :D i mean what's the config you are using. which makes
your board, processor, os.
please tell it first.

how big is your hdd 40/60/80/120/160/250/..........
for above 120 you need to update your operating sys with some sPacks. (not available for win98, and if there are any alternatives please dont use them. better choose XPSP2)

## if using win 98, it has some probs with 512 mb of ram or more.
