Upgrading PC - urgent help needed

Hi friends

I have a desktop pc with AMD 635 processor, Gigabyte am3+ mobo, 4 gb corsair 1600 mhz ram, 430x corsair smps, 1tb hdd, dell 21 inch monitor.

Recently my mobo started giving problems and when I checked with repairs, they say it's repair costs ₹1200. Please suggest if I should buy another mobo, processor and ram or just get it repaired as I use pc for doing normal work like seeing movies and ms office and my son does his studies on it.

If new parts like mobo, processor n ram, then please give suggestions for it with on board graphics and slot for future expansion. I will keep other parts same.

Budget - normal say 10k - 12k for these 3 items

Need to decide by tomorrow as my son exams starts from 7th Jan.

Dude, budget is not enough for a good config. If you can get the old mobo repaired and it runs for even 3-6 months, do it. Meanwhile, consider saving ~30-35k for a new config.

You can also search for same motherboard in used market.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean 35k for basic computer and that too for only for processor, mobo CD drive and ram?

Isn't it too high.

Can you please also suggest a new mobo for this processor...

Processor ~8k
Mobo ~6k
8GB Ram ~3k
256GB SSD ~3k
New 500 or 550W PSU ~4k
New cabinet with proper airflow ~2k

Don't waste money on cd/dvd drive.

I intend to use my old 1gb hdd, 430x corsair smps and bijli cabinet with 2 extra fans already installed.

I can also settle for lower grade processor n mobo....

Please give model nos...

Anything less than i3 10100 doesn't feel value to me. But at this budget, can't think about that.

Cheapest you can go for is Pentium.

G5400 was selling for 4.5k, now it's mostly out of stock. See if you can find one. Compatible motherboard H310 chipset board would cost sub 5k and 2.5k for 8GB RAM

If you can't find G5400 around that price, next stop is G6400 for about 6k, compatible motherboad - H410 chipset board would cost about 5.5k and 2.5k for 8GB RAM.

For 2k more you can get Ryzen APU, and for another 2k you got i3. I see you don't have budget, this is just for your information.

Sir

If I increase my budget to 16k, what would be the best options available...

As Saiyan suggested, see if you can get compatible board for your existing system. That's the cheapest option.

G6400 + H410M E + 8GB DDR4 2666mhz would cost about 14k
2200G/3200G + A320M S2H + 8GB DDR4 3000mhz would cost about 15k/16k - about 30/35% better than G6400
i3 10100 + H410M E + 8GB DDR4 2666mhz would cost about 18k - about 50% better than 2200G

You decide what's best. For your use case, any one of these build will do.

This post sums up your options pretty well. If you are tight on budget, get old PC repaired for now.

My recommendation will be this as you will likely use it for the next 6-8 years:

CPU - Intel i3 10100 - 10k

Mobo - MSI H410M Pro-VH - 5.6k (it has M.2 SSD slot)

RAM - 1x8GB DDR4 2666+MHz - 2.3k*

SSD - Kingston A400 120GB 2.5″ - 1.8k (For OS as SSD makes a big difference in responsiveness over HDD)

Total - 19.7k

*Get 2666MHz RAM but sometimes higher freq RAM is cheaper. Say a 3000MHz RAM will underclock & run at 2666.

Currently intel 10100 is costing around 10800/- and 3200g is costing 8800/-

Have prices increased for intel as I found some persons bought 10100 around 9.9k in December itself.

and which is best place to buy, Online or offline, I live in Delhi.

Any old processor or mobo available?

If you have really low budget then you can get a 3ghz core 2 duo cpu, with g41 motherboard from zebronics /frontech etc and pair it with 4gb ddr3 ram. It will cost around 5-6k max for all of these components.

Although its not powerful or future proof, it will be enough for basic office work and school projects.

Democracy is a myth
While upgrading you must upgrade these 3 together.
MOBO, PROCY and RAM.

Your old PSU may support these but recommended to replace that too.

Anyway, if possible build around i3 (or i5) processor.
Please don't use old processor or mobo as using old HW makes no sense.
They are either already out of support or would be soon. Also, finding compatible HW would be tough, and even found would be costly.
i3, i5 are at least 10yr old now.

Also, SSD would be costly i.e. price/GB would be higher than SATA drives.
If you are tight on budget, have a MOBO with SSD option but go for SATA as of now.

As per Amazon:-
i3 9th gen : 7156/-
MOBO MSi or ASUS: 4900/- each
RAM 8GB DD4 : 3680/-

Total 15736/-

b/w both MOBO are micro ATX, your existing case I guess is macro.
Keep this in mind before buying new mobo in case you don't plan to upgrade cabinet.

DO NOT BUY i3 9100F
It doesn't have an iGPU, so won't run without a dedicated GPU. Please keep this in mind in future.

Also, any RAM higher than 2666MHz is a waste of money for Intel rigs unless you get it for really cheap or have Zxxx mobo. I have seen 2666MHz RAMs for as low as 2.3k, right now 2.6k on amazon.

Yes, seems like it. I have seen i3 10100 under 10k earlier. Now seeing it for 10.2k here:
Intel Core i3-10100 3.6 GHz Upto 4.3 GHz LGA 1200 Socket 4 Cores 8 Threads 6 MB Smart Cache Desktop Processor - Intel : Flipkart.com

i dont think he needs i3/ryzen or a similar cpu as his only motivation is to use it for office work and his kid's studies-for that reason,it would be a bit of an overkill.

And his budget is also quite low.

True but in the long term might be worth it to spend that extra 5k over a 2c/4t Pentium G5400. nac did summarize the options well earlier.

I won't even recommend 2C/4T processors unless that's a placeholder and the buyer would be waiting ~1-2 months for next gen CPUs.

Do you mean to say that I should wait for next 1-2 months and then buy these processors when they become cheaper. If so, please suggest the final components as per you....

Yeah, looks like prices have gone up lately. 10100 price gone up by few hundreds.
Check with local shops, you're likely to get better prices in local shops as you're in Delhi.
