Recently 2 of my friends purchased AMD based machine. 1st one : Compaq 3029 Lappy running on AMD 64 turion X2 proc and 2nd one : AMD Athlon 64 3000+ AM2 socket proc with Asus M2N mobo.
I tried to install 64 bit Ubuntu 6.06 on both of them but unable to do so. On Compaq lappy i am able to run live cd but thereafter it hangs as soon as i try to install it. While in the PC, i am unable to run even live cd.

I have tried running them in native vga mode. I wanted to know whether 64 bit Ubuntu has any issues with AMD proc. or i am simply unlucky.

What i can do to install ubuntu or sud i try to install other linux distro.

Help me fast pls.

as far as i know thats not a problem with 64 bit, its a problem with the live cds, live cds sometimes turn out to be buggy when installing through them, get the alternate install cd.

@Shivkumar, You have 2 options:

Option - I:

Boot Ubuntu 6.06 in Safe Graphics Mode. Try this. This may solve your PC
hanging problems during Ubuntu installation.

Option -II:

Download the 'Alternate CD' of Ubuntu from here

Better install 32-bit Ubuntu. I'm not very sure whether 32-bit applications like Java,
Flash, Win32 Codecs will work in 64-bit Ubuntu 6.10

@ Chester: I have installed 64 bit Ubuntu 6.06 on an Intel machine earlier from the same CD, thats why I got the doubt bcos it didn't installed on 2 AMD machines.
@ Jguru: Installed Ubuntu 6.06 32 bit on one of the machine and its running fine. I browse using Airtel GPRS, so I can't dowload any isos.

Thanks to both of you.
