Stabbing my shoe
Well, this is a wonderful tutorial I found at www.linuxforums.org by @cheetahman. Here is the tutorial to upgrade to KDE 3.4 (latest) on SuSE 9.0 or 9.1 or 9.2 or whatever..Here it goes. I hope this is useful for thinkDIGIT members:
------------------------------------------------------------
These are the instructions to upgrade 9.0,9.1,9.2 and 9.3 default KDE to KDE 3.4
Another guide can be found at the offical novell website
*www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11504.html and replace the 9.2 with 9.0,9.1,9.2,9.3
The ftp server is ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/
and pick which version you have the versions that are offically supported are 9.0,9.1,9.2 and 9.3
The official ftp servers are as followed contain the base updates
For 9.0 - ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.0/
For 9.1- ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/
For 9.2- ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.2/
For 9.3- ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.3/
First you have to configure the settings in YaST.
To do this you have to follow these steps:
First Launch YaST
Select "Change Source of Installation"
Select "FTP" or "HTTP" from the "Add" pop-up
And fill in the name of the server the ones that I recommend are the ones above as these are the offical servers that contain the offical KDE 3.4 rpms.
Server Name: mirror.mcs.anl.gov (*)
Directory on Server:
/pub/suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source
Confirm / OK
Click "Finish"
Now you'll be back in YaST's Control Center.
Select YaST Install and Remove Software.
Select "Package Groups" from the "Filter" pop-up.
Choose the "zzz all" group (last in the list)
From the Package menu select:
"All in this List -> Update if newer version available".
Select "Search" from the "Filter" pop-up.
Search for "cyrus-sasl"
From the list of packages found, select for installation
all except cyrus-sasl-devel.
Once the installation has completed, log out and back in.
When logged in you will be greated with the KDE 3.4 startup screen.
Congratulations you have just upgraded to KDE 3.4.
