hi guys,
My requirement is very different from the stuff you generally see ;)

I'm looking for a thin and light laptop for work. I'm not interested in gaming (sorry guys!!), but need something with great battery life and great screen resolution. Now, I cant spend as much otherwise I would have gotten the macbook pro retina - so my budget is limited to about 50-55k.

My other criteria is good after sales warranty coverage.

I'm willing to wait for haswell refresh if that makes any sense. Any suggestions ?

It will make a lot of sense since the Haswell ultrabook processor's are said to be more energy efficient than the previous generation. But you will have to surrender on the screen since you will not be able to get a full hd screen but a normal hd screen I guess. But still I will suggest you to fill the questionnaire.

You are correct about the Efficiency part , but as far the Scren resolution is concerned , I am sure HD+ is now trending if not FHD. ( Since 4th Gen laptops will be carrying a powerful iGPU and Excellent Battery . HD rez for anything above 13" should go obselte after 3rd Gen)
However OP might have to spend a bit more on 55ks end to get it.

+1 to what you said, but you can look for samsung ultrabooks for portability and better screen resolution

Well 55k is what I think is a bit less for is a bit less for getting best of both worlds i.e. Good performance plus a great screen. Yeah but who knows that may be he can get laptop with best of both worlds. :)

In deed he can but what about the availiblity of those coz chronos was launched many months back and even uptill now they have not been able to provide it to the people.

@shadow - here's my questionnaire.

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD) - 55k.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer? - anything from 13.3 to 15.6. Important is weight.

  • Netbook; 11" - 10” screen or less
  • Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
  • Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: Dell for its after sales service. Thinkpad for awesomeness.
b. Dislike:not particularly, but dont want to go totally unknown brand.

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? programming (Rails, database, java, etc.)

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer? Full HD screen res highly preferred. Can compromise on glossy vs matte, though matte is preferred.

6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish) - after sales service is very important
