Need help with thermal paste for Core2Quad Q9550. I'm switching to it and will need a paste to apply on it. AS5 is too expensive and as I'm not overclocking, AS5 is unnecessary. Any help for a cheap one?
H1 is good, atleast the ones that I get from Noctua. You can check out the usual MX2 but last time I checked it was too 'watery'. I think you get CM thermalfusion 400.
Get noctua nt -h1 from primeabgb.
But call then and confirm availability before making payment.
I ordered one RAM from them on Oct 14th, and still no response.
-1 to AS V. That sucks.
+1 to Noctua NT-H1
AS5 sucks ....wow I never knew that! I shouldve met you when I was contemplating and finally switched from OCZ Freeze to AS5. Can you enlighten me as to why AS5 sucks, Sir?
AS5 is doing great. BF4 used to make the CPU i7 3770K do 67C+, AS5 and Hyper 212 is keeping it below 47C at any cost. The problem was that it was not applied properly in the first instance, don't follow the PEA procedure with AS5. Secondly AS5 takes 200 hrs of Curing before its magic happens, two things that you should always keep in mind. Back in 2008/09 then we had even hotter proccys and cards, it worked great then it still works great now,the trickiest part is ....Proper Application.
Its still gold, just spread it like butter on both the CPU and Heatsink in thin layers ( not transparent) and you are good to go.It is alright when we are at temps around ~50-60 degrees which was hot for a few years ago. Nowadays, cards have Tjunction points of nearly 105 degrees so 50-60 degrees is not much.
Above 60 degrees, the effectiveness of ASV is 1 degrees inferior to normal stock thermal paste.
In my case
normal went upto 92.
ASV=94.
I applied AS V twice to confirm this.
Now I switched from ASV to IC Diamond 24(Arguably the best right now).
Now I have temps of 80 degrees on same OC.

PS: IC Diamond works better the harder it is pushed.

105C which processor???!!! That's not normal even for a FX9370/9590

There's no hard and bound thumb rule for applying TIM, trust me. Its exactly why people mess up.If PEA or Center Spread doesn't work then butter method works the best or vice versa.
@seamon and @The Incinerator, what are your impressions about the Deepcool Z9 thermal paste? I recently purchased a unit from Snapdeal, to use on one of my laptops, which I am yet to do.

Deepcool is a Chinese Brand and is an OEM to Dell and Fujitsu etc etc. They have been around for quite some time making affordable but quality stuff from CPU coolers to Cabinets. The Z9 is a well known and well regarded product from their Z line of thermal grease which also has lower priced Z3 and Z5 in that series. It stands shoulder to shoulder with Prolimatech ,AS5 ,Tuniq TX 3 and IC Diamond. Its a Tier 1 product and just not some Indian brand as pointed out by our dear friend here.Overall a very good buy. But the TX5 would have been slightly better and cheaper. Give the TX9 some time to settle in it will perform as intended. So,you can over clock with the Z9 between an AMD 9590 and its cooler as hard as you want to!!!!
