And he confirmed he is in the market for a central midfielder, with Rennes star Yann M’Vila his top target, and still wants to strengthen his defence.
“I believe I have shown in my 15 years here I am capable to make the right decision for the right players,” said Wenger.
“In the last 15 years you have seen more world-class players here, or as many as anywhere else in the world. You have to trust my judgment. One day somebody else will make the decisions in my place and we will have to trust him.
“The last week has been tough, but that is part of the rules at the moment. I don’t have a problem with it because I can live with that. I try to focus on making the right decisions for the club.
“At the moment, I feel we are a bit short in midfield because Wilshere and Diaby are out. But we can get players at the back as well.
“The main reason we have not signed more players as yet is we have not found them. And I return a question to you – why do the big clubs come to take our players who are young?
“Because they looked everywhere else and they did not find, so they came to us. That means we have top quality players and that Barcelona, Manchester United and Manchester City try to take our players – why? They have scouts all over the world.
“It is nothing to do with the money for us. It is just with the quality and availability.
“If you look at the players we have brought in, you will notice very soon that we have brought top-quality players. We have bought Carl Jenkinson, Gervinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
“We have not lost so many players. We have, of course, lost big players but number-wise we should be capable of doing well. If we find quality we will add quality.”
