^ Absolutely bizarre 'loan' deal. Roma help develop Bojan for 2 seasons and when he is ready to step up, Barca will snatch him away for an extra 1M!!!!
I've just been reading about Bojan's transfer from Barcelona to Roma, and find the arranged deal to be unbelievably in favor of the selling club.
12 million euros is cheap enough for a little forward with an eye for goal, but realistically the fee (should Roma wish to keep him beyond 2012-13) is closer to 40 million. That is an awful lot of money and I simply cannot see Roma paying that much! So it seems more likely that the deal is effectively a two-year loan as Barcelona would then buy him back for just 13 million.
The benefits for Barca are clear for all to see: This will allow a promising 20-year old to go and learn how to be one of Europe's top front-men. Playing first team football will certainly be of benefit to the player, but I think he might well be looking beyond that.
He is going to play under a Barcelona legend in Luis Enrique, a man who has been learning the trade as manager of Barcelona B; a team who, sensibly, play to the same model as the first team. It seems certain he will adopt the same rat-a-tat-tat approach with his new club and Bojan should adapt to that very well.
Now we all know that Pep Quardiola has said on numerous occasions that he cant see himself staying in his post for more than another year or two. Would Barcelona then look to insert another 'Barca-man' into the hot-seat? I can definitely see Enrique (who has only got a 2-year-deal with the Serie A club incidentally) replacing Quardiola when he does leave, and he would be able to take a young, catalan striker with him back to the Nou Camp, to perhaps replace David Villa who will be 31 at this point.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but lets see what happens in Summer 2012-13!
