From the site : *symphonyos.com/cms/
We are pleased to announce SymphonyOne. SymphonyOne is a leaner meaner version of SymphonyOS built with a much smaller memory footprint than the standard SymphonyOS and with improved stability. SymphonyOne will leverage additional benefits of the window manager used in SymphonyOS (FVWM) to provide faster loading corner targets and an overall faster desktop experience. The SymphonyOne Desktop is currently in a closed alpha test and we expect to release the first preview version within the next week. We would like to take this opprotuity to thank those that have stayed with the project over the last year and hope they will continue to help us move SymphonyOS forward in the years to come.
Wow! and i thought it died.
Mezzo rocks!!Hope they release the DE seperately.

Proud to be Linux
DE is cool but
SymphonyOne 2008.1 is now availble on CD-ROM via On-Disk.com, the exclusive CD provider for the SymphonyOS project for USD$9.99 and via Direct Download for a donation of USD $1.00.From April 18, 2008 we will remove the donation requirement for direct download as well as making additional mirrors and bittorrent options available

that does not feel good
and nowhere on the website the word "gnu/linux" is mentioned.everywhere "ubuntu".
getting sick of this s***.

LOL... isn't that "hafta vasooli"?? :D Direct Download for a "donation" crap! what a joke! Either make it completely paid or completely free! Don't pretend to give it for free!

Hi. I am the project leader and founder of SymphonyOS. Our experiment in open source project fundraising was set up in order to purchase a new development machine to keep the project going. It is in fact a donation as if you have a strong objection to making a $1 donation you are welcome to email the project @ project@symphonyos.com and we will gladly provide you with the download link. This method of fund raising was arrived at after taking several things into account.

1.) CD sales simply do not bring in funds to a smaller linux distro. Our CD sales account for about $50-$100/year.
2.) Hardware costs money.
3.) We didnt want to limit what the general open source user gets or close anything in any way. If you donate or email now you get the same thing you can download for free on Friday.
4.) Google was nice enough to cancel our adsense account that was keeping what little funding the project required in place. We have gone back and forth with them during the last year without ever getting them to turn it back on or provide any explanation as to why it was killed in the first place.
5.) Most people who cannot wait another week for a distro that hasnt released in almost a year will most likely not have a problem making a $1 donation.

All of that being said, we have provided free download links to all who have asked for them via email (over 100 people so far from educators and bloggers to people who just do not want to make a donation if they havent tried the distro yet). Nobody has been denied.

You are absolutely right. The current site was put up quickly as our focus has been on the release itself. This will be corrected. The last thing we want is to fail to give credit to those people who have made Symphony possible. One of the reasons we changed to SymphonyOne is because it is easier to say SymphonyOne GNU/Linux than it was with "OS" in there.

Point taken mate, But it would have been a lot better , IMO, if you put this on the site too.
Would have helped folks who could and coudnt donate.

The only reason I was angry was coz, this is the first *nix distro i've seen that asked for a donation before downloading.

Anyways, I'm glad things are cleared.

Regards,
ray
