Hi,
I'm a computer engineering student,currently pursuing my 3rd year
of the course. I've been using a desktop all these days. I'm someone
who 'cannot live' without a PC with me, and nowadays, I feel tht my
powerful enough desktop is not serving my portability purpose since I
switch between hostel and home a lot. I would like to go for a
portable device on this note.
I'm not a serious gamer.used to play
some racing games earlier. I do not need my device to render me gaming
capability. What I expect is browsing, document
handling,audio,video,pretty good Hd video rendering,development
environments like Visual studio, eclipse, antlr, some database softwares,
web designing and all..I dont have much to spent on my current
situation. I'm confused on whether I should go for a netbook or a
laptop. I'm nt interested in investing some non future proof cheap
laptops. Heard tht there are some netbooks currently which can render
hd and hosts dual core atom or some other cpu and ddr3 RAM. My max
budget can b arnd 15-17ks if for a netbook.
I would like to get
suggestions from your side on this.. I should go for a netbook or a
cheap laptop. Whatever your answer is,suggest me a model/config too.
Screen size is not much of a concern for me..
Thanks in advance.

Don't even think of a netbook if you are going to run Visual studio, eclipse, etc. If you are too tight on budget I would recommend:

Dual Core 2.3 Ghz (below 22000)
Core2 Duo 2.2 Ghz (Below 25000)

Since you are on a low budget, I can recommend you MSI. They are selling really cheap and are even offering a 2 year warranty. MSI is an unknown name in Laptops but considering their reputation in Motherboards, I would definitely recommend them.

Yes if you want to get a laptop for Programming then you will have to raise your budget upto 30K, but if you can't then I would recommend you to check out MSI CR420 Laptop which comes with 2gb RAM and shared GPU.
