Suggest a Budget Android Mobile on Steroids.

Back to school!!
Heya guys, long time no see. My trusted LG G2 has finally given up, these days it heats up a lot and then just hangs till I restart it and I can't deal with the thermal runaway. So, its time to replace the phone.

1. Budget?: Ideally 15k, 20k max but I'd rather try not to hit the upper range.

2. Display type and size?: 5-5.7"

3. Dual sim?: Preferred Dual, open to single sim phones as well

4. Preferred choice of brand?: Strict no: Coolpad, Gionee, OnePlus, LeEco, Micromax, Lava, Xolo etc. Open to: Lenovo, Xiaomi, Moto, Samsung, Asus, HTC, LG etc

5. What camera option you want (flash, front facing camera)? Least bothered, anything that takes a snap.

6. Preferred operating system? (Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc). Android.

7. Preferred connectivity options (3G, 4G ready). 4G

8. Primary use of handset (multimedia, camera, internet, gaming etc)? Multimedia - Music/Videos, Internet, Moderate gaming; arcade games.

9. Any specific mobile phones in consideration? ZF2 Laser, Moto G4(heating? and no compass), G3 and G3 Turbo, Style(Battery?), Redmi Note 3, Samsung J7(Yuck)

10. Any other info that you want to share. The phone should have a good battery life(SOT), should be officially upgradable to at least one more version of Android(N), should not heat much, and have good performance and stable UI. Also at least 64GB storage is required or SD Card

I know it's a lot to ask under 20k but my hands are tied as I am moving back to college, so bear with me.

At that price range you are not gonna get much of an upgrade to your G2 since G2 itself was a good device.

If you are an Android enthusiast, I would suggest to just mess around and upgrade your G2.

LG G2

[ROM][6.0][MARSHMALLOW][CM13] Official Cyano… | LG G2

Careful though, any wrong steps can brick your device.

But if you do want to buy a new phone, I would suggest any of the Motorola phones.
My experience with Androids from a lot of companies has been terrible because of all the third party bloat they provide.
And it cannot even be removed without rooting the phone.
Which ultimately slows down the phone so much, it takes 30 seconds to open the Dialer app.

Eventually it lands in my hand since I am the geek in the family, I gotta do all the resetting, rooting and remove all the bloat.

Motorola phones come with the least bloat, they are closest to AOSP, and don't slow down for a really long time.
Two years with a Moto X 2nd Gen in the family, no issues whatsoever.

ZUK Z1 fits perfectly your criteria but Redmi note 3 have better chipset. In short if you need better cam then zuk z1 else redmi note 3.

If that's the case then using his old G2 with a custom ROM would be a better idea than to buy a new phone just to fit in a custom ROM.
It's up to OP though.

The OP said his LG G2 is giving issues and hence looking for an upgrade. And not everyone likes MIUI , so I recommended the use of a custom ROM. Do note he is returning to college. I would prefer to get a new hardware than risk an old device dying when you need it the most. He can use the LG G2 as a backup secondary device for his multimedia purposes or hold his secondary sim and stuff like that. It's upto to him whether to buy a new hardware or manage to get more out of the LG G2.

P.S.- [MENTION=52329]tkin[/MENTION] Moto G3 display would be a downgrade to your Lg G2 IMO.

Redmi Note 3 cause ZUK Z1 is same as your G2 specs wise

Also in RN3 you get a much better chipset which doesn't heat

How is the quality of RN3? Any hardware issues? Or software bugs? How is Xiaomi after sales service?

You are absolutely correct, I will root my G2 and keep using it as a backup device. But I need a new phone.

Agree, very few displays can come close to the G2 under 20k, but I have to make a compromise now.

How would I buy the RN3? It requires scripts right? I will be in office, can I buy it from MI store app? How's the rush these days?

How much effort is required to buy the RN3? I have to buy it from office. When is the next sale? I want to buy the 32GB if I can.

This is really a weird time to purchase a phone in that budget segment, i would say wait for some time, Wait for the launch of new moto x and new sony x lineup. It will paid you well.

Or if you can't wait for some time buy zuk z1.
As they say that waiting game does never ends.

I agree, I can wait a few more weeks, then I'll be at mumbai, that 5% octroi. But I can deal with it, Sony x will cost above 40k. How is the upcoming moto x play replacement?

X play replacement comes with SD625 which is again a Octa core A53 chipset so perf wise not that great especially compared to 650 which has 2x A72 and 4x A53

Also as for RN3 flash sale , I think now its fairly easy to get any 32 GB variant of your choice on both amazon and mi since the demand has gone down a bit

Any phone apart from Mi5 most probably won't get Android N update, at least that's what is happening with Xiaomi as of now. They just upgrade MIUI but not major version of Android.

you can wait for Zenphone series to launch, there is a variant with SD 650 and another with SD 820.. Also the new OP3 is just around the corner as well
