Sufficient RAM

I have an ASUS Laptop. configuration-
2nd gen i7-2670QM
750GB hdd
4GB RAM
1GB Nvidia geforce GT 520MX
Original windows 7
But my laptop is very slow at startup also during work besides having such a good processor. Ithink due to such large hdd it is slow.
How much more amount of RAM should i install for optimal performance.
my laptop has 1 additional slot,with max extension to 8GB RAM. should i put 2or 4GB RAM????????

RAM is sufficient. It should NOT be slow. Perhaps a software issue.

Run a Virus scan and check.

@op install latest windows updates
Run the MRT tool from Windows Key+R>MRT
install microsoft security essentials update & perform a complete scan
finally defragment ur drive
try these & get back ur config is fine

scan for viruses and perform a chkdsk or defragment on all drives and make sure its clean and try cleaning the unwanted registries and temp data just run Ccleaner and u should be fine

kindly check your cpu usage using task manger>performance @ idle. ideally it should be below 10% & post

also check the start up process.
To do it go to run then type msconfig.
Go to the start up process tab and unchecked the unnecessary process save and restart the comp.

yes its always below 5%.

Ithink due to such large hdd it is slow.

Large HDD doesn't make this system slow...

should i put 2or 4GB RAM????????

the existing 4GB RAM is more than enough..

Install CCleaner & Clean System & Registry with it..
also check the startup programs in CCleaner.

I hope u have good updated Antivirus installed

Open the run box pressing the [Windows]+R key
Then type-

 msconfig

in it

Open the start-up Tab. and uncheck the useless softwares. Should solve the problem

Although, I suggest you use something like CCleaner or TuneUp utilities to check which items are useless. They give more information on individual items than msconfig
