My computer center has 10 computers running Win-XP. I am very disturbed with repeated deletion of important files by some students. Is there any way by which I may prevent students frm deletion of these files? Any way of creating user account and giving limited access rights? Please instruct me in detail.

There are several ways to do...

1. (If Your file system is NTFS)

Create a guest account for your students.

In Your administrator account, First open the explorer and select the files which are to be protected. Right click and go to properties and click advanced. There check the option Encrypt Contents to Secure Data.

Now, the users using the guest account will never be able to see the contents of files. They cant even delete them.

2. Suppose, you need to completely hide the folder, then follow this thread

3. Use a software like folder guard in which you can find all the options like Read only, Hidden, Lock etc..

yeah Linardni, you should REALLY go for this software.
an excerpt from "Deep Freeze" website...
"Deep Freeze instantly protects and preserves baseline computer configurations. No matter what changes a user makes to a workstation, simply restart to eradicate all changes and reset the computer to its original state - right down to the last byte. Expensive computer assets are kept running at 100% capacity and technical support time is reduced or eliminated completely. The result is consistent trouble-free computing on a truly protected and parallel network, completely free of harmful viruses and unwanted programs"

thanks for the Info "kl_ravi" & "sridatta" for the Tweak.
