Stripping Ubuntu

The Linux Guy
Ubuntu Linux is a nice distro, but I think its a bit too heavy. Too many things installed. More than I need anyway. Now I know this much, that I can uninstall un-needed packages using apt, but the problem here is, I am not quite sure exactly which packages are un-needed.

I run the Ubuntu partition for basic tasks like browsing, bittorrent, music / movies. I also run a localhost on it, and a few VMs. Some amount of casual audio/video editing also done. And I like unity.

So, apart from that, what are all the things I can remove while not breaking my system?
