strange problem

My config is

AMD 64 3000+ (s939)
ASUS A8N-E mobo
1 GB Transcend Ram DDR400
160GB Sata HDD
Nvidia 6600GT 128Mb PCI-e gfx card

my problem that whenever i start a game after 5-10 minutes my monitor screen goes off and keyboard freezes,but the CPU is still running,even the motherboard LED is still on and all the fans in the cabinet are running.

this only happens when i play games,coz even if leave my pc on for 3-4 hrs this problem doent occur but whenever i start any game this problem occurs.I am using WinXP as my OS

it can be a overheating problem.plz check ur cpu and graphic card temp...
by softwares and by touching the heatsink area to confirm the proper cooling and do post here....we will surely find out a solution.
and it must be a overheating problem...
so do post with the result u get.

Sir i have already posted the temperature of my CPU and Gfx card for which u have said that they are cool enough.

then check ur ram for errors with memtest....also run heavy applications like modern games and while running them for 5-10 mins check the temp again.
coz if the problem is lying in soft or anyother hardware.....it must have occured at the same time u run those games or app.
also tell me this happen only in games or almost in evrything.
and also lets wait for others to help.
double check ur cables too.

probably a driver conflict/problem... try re-installing latest drivers 4 ur Gfx/Mobo/Sound/Chipset etc etc and see if the problem is solved.... r u running 1 GB Ram in dual/single channel mode ? ..try changing RAM slots.

Is this a new PC? If not, could you run games before without any probs?

Looks like it has something to do with your gfx card. Have you tried updating the gfx drivers?

Also try gaming with all background apps shut down (CTRL+ALT+DEL, shutdown individual apps using task manager). This includes shutting down your antivirus.

Are you running Java based apps in the background? I've had similar probs with a particular version of Azureus (bittorent client) causing display corruption and blank screen when running games on 6600GT. Was a driver <-> jre 1.5.1 <-> azureus conflict. Observed similar corruption when running ProjectX (another java based app, for demuxing DVB streams).

Do check ur RAM module for dust and see if its working fine !! try putting ur RAM in other RAM slots and also clean ur RAM slot with the help of a soft brush also as all the others said , check for overheating problem and/or a driver conflict.
If possible try updating ur motherboard drivers and other updates as possible from this site.... and do post in ur results here and we will find a solution for u Dude

My PC is brand new.

I tried changing the RAM modules in all possible combinations.

I even noted the temperatures of my CPU and Gfx card they are as follows

CPU 42 deg celsius on start up and 50deg when i play games.

Gfx card temp is 52 deg on start up and goes up to 77 deg when i played games.

Games which i tried was
1)NFSU
2)NFSU2
3)Enter the Matrix
4)Rise of Nations

Also when i decrease the eye candy stuff from the games my problem does not occur for 30 min to 60 min. but after that same problem occurs.

ur gfx card's getting hot prolly....touch ur gfx card immediately after the prob occurs....if its too hot u need to get some cooling for it

i did what Ringwraith said.
the Gfx card is probably hot and is getting heated.

Now what kind of cooling does my gfx card need and how much money i will have to shell out for that.

arre get a HSF of the appropriate size for ur gpu...i once used an extra CPU heatsink i had and it really helped
but first of all check with the original cooling soln for ur gfx card, it might just be the fan's choked with dust! in that case just clean it up or get a high rpm new fan...hope that helps
