Strange 4GB RAM Problem....

I have recently installed the 2GB(1X2) and now current total RAM is 4GB.
OS is Windows XP 32-bit

The problem i am facing is windows xp shows only 2.62GB of RAM available. I have allocated 128MB to GPU on-board graphics which is max. i can give. I have also installed the Windows 7 x64 bit but got same problem 4GB(2.63 usable). I know that 32-bit OS can support upto 3.5Gb ram but here it is using only 2.62 What is this funda please help me....

It's the limitation of 32 bit OS and your mobos limitation in 32 bit enviroment - some mobo shows 3GB and some other shows 2.75GB ram when 4GB ram is installed but the OS you are using is a 32bit consumre grade one like xp, vista or windows 7 x86 edition.

To utilize the full amount of ram just install 64 bit version of xp, vista or windows 7 and you will be able to see and use all of 4 GB ram.

Your bios is showing all 4GB ram ??

Have you updated your mobos bios ?

You have 2x 2GB ram modules right ?

Try each 2GB stick at a time on every 4 slots of the mobo and see if you get 2GB showing properly - do this for all 2 ram modules of yours.

yep, now it looks like your mobo is really reserving that amount of ram but it's very odd.

Try these :

Try clearing CMOS setting by removing the CMOS battery from mobo and put it back again after 5 mins.

There's a option called memory hole remapping or something like that in the bios options - try enabling or disabling it and see what happens.

try once again with a discrete gfx card and completely disabling the mobos IGP and all shared rams.

already done with clearing cmos...igp takes 128mb ram and if i disable it no display comes... and i have searched for remapping option but it is no where in BIOS!!

having 939 socket.

Enter Bios setting :

go to :

Chipset >Advanced > NorBridge Config > Memory Config and look for a setting named

Software Memory Hole - enable it.

i have enabled it.. but still 2.62GB is usable...
i personally feel so embarrassed being an IT vetran i am not able to solve this issue till now...

and will take the issue with Asus support too.. it seems that only they can tell what's exactly going on...

the forum from ASUS support says that the MB supports 2Gb of ram on 400FSB and 4Gb on 333FSB..
