I am facing a very peculiar problem:

Sometimes the sound of my computer vanishes, and sometimes it is perfectly fine. I can ply songs for hours but sometimes the song stops in the middle and I have to restart windows to resume the playback.

Lately this problem has increased tremendously, as every now and then I find my computer without any sound. I tried formatting the pc and installing all drivers provided in the cd provided. But nothing seems to work.

I work on win 98se.My sound is on board.
Please help me!

It could be due to IRQ resource conflicts, or maybe an ACPI misconfiguration. Just a guess, cause I cant think of anyother reason..

Go into your bios and restore your default bios settings and see if you are still having that problem or not.

hmm there is a small chance that this could be a hardware problem. Something similar was happening to my computer where the sound kept going to mute and back. However this was due to some problem with my keyboard where it sent out signals by itself (there was a mute button on my keyboard). In the end I just taped it, instead of trying to mess with its insides.

This is probably not your problem so this is probably a useless post.

lol @ sohummisra
anyways .. doest it like give an error or something ?
or it just stops during playback ?
if there is some erroe and u start and the sound has disappeared. . its just a software problem ... one of those that the OS causes ...
